The Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, recently welcomed distinguished alumnus and philanthropist, Mr. Omotayo Adegboyega, Founder and Chairman of the Omotayo Adegboyega Foundation, along with the Foundation’s Board Chairman, Professor Saheed Adekilekun.
In a significant act of generosity, the Foundation donated ₦11 million to support 110 indigent students of the University, with each beneficiary receiving ₦100,000 to ease their financial burdens and support their academic journey.
Expressing deep gratitude, Professor Bamire commended the Foundation’s commitment to student welfare, urging other alumni to contribute to the advancement of education at OAU. Mr. Adegboyega emphasized that the initiative was driven by his belief in education as a tool for societal transformation, ensuring that no student’s dreams are hindered by financial constraints.
Professor Adekilekun highlighted the role of alumni in fostering institutional growth, describing the donation as an investment in the future. The Dean of the Division of Students’ Affairs, Professor Deolu Odedire, also acknowledged the impact of such philanthropy in motivating students to excel academically.
The cheque presentation ceremony was attended by key university officials, including Deputy Vice-Chancellors, the University Librarian, the Bursar, and representatives of the Great Ife Alumni Association.
