The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board Matriculation Board (JAMB) has introduced mock for trial testng as part of the 2025/2026 UTME exercise.
The mock trial testing is only for individuals, who will not be qualified by age (16 years as of 30th September, 2025) or admission or who do not desire admission for 2025 but simply wish to have CBT experience.
Such candidates can register for MOCK ONLY for Trial Testing.
Consequently, the "mock only" option will be available to this category of individuals during their creation of profile code, and only the option of 'Mock for Trial Testing registration will be received by this category of candidates, whose birthday would not be later than 1st October, 2009.
The aim of the mock trial test is to avoid distractions while providing a window of opportunity for the Board to trial its examination test engine.
In the words of the Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, "Mock-UTME is not new. We started this category of examination in 2017. The purpose of the mock is to provide a practising platform for candidates who might not be familiar
or who have phobia for the computer. We feel that some of them are experiencing the CBT platform for the first time, and we know that even those who could operate their cellphone would be scared of using the computer."
"This year, we started the enforcement of minimum age for admission into the university system. This would prevent candidates, who are trial testing, and are less than 16, who just feel that 'Oh, I will be due for admission next year, I want to practise, not for admission purpose. 'We believe that such
candidates should not be
stopped. 'We should not say because you're not sixteen, you can't experience the UTME.' Actually, there was also a decision by a court of law that says: "Oh, if you know that they're underage why do you allow them to sit the examination?
"Hence, such positions should be taken into consideration and the fact that there are students, who have not secured their five O'level credits who simply want to practise.
"So, what we have done this year is to say: 'Yes, those of you, who are not desiring admission this year, but who simply want to practise, well, we give you the opportunity, such that those, who are taking the UTME and the mock can participate, but you must give us assurance that you are aware that you are allowed to take the exam only because you want to practise'. So, this window is to encourage, as well as allow those who are in SS1 or SS2 , if they so wish to take the examination.”
