Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, has hosted a delegation from the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the accreditation of its Biological Sciences programme.
In a welcome address, the Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Hassan Ibrahim, expressed deep gratitude to the NUC Acting Executive Secretary for dispatching an esteemed delegation led by Professor Hyacinth Oluma, a renowned expert and Professor of plant pathology from the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi.
Professor Ibrahim emphasized the significance of the accreditation exercise, describing it as a collaborative effort to enhance academic standards.
“This visit is not about fault-finding, but about assessing our program, recognizing our strengths, and identifying areas for improvement.
The team’s feedback will guide us in refining our practices and ensuring our Biological Sciences programme meets global benchmarks,” he stated.
The Acting Vice Chancellor assured the team of the University's steady support and cooperation throughout the exercise.
Speaking on behalf of the NUC delegation, the team leader, Professor Hyacinth Oluma, outlined the objectives of the visit and noted that their mission was to review the programme's curriculum, fFaculty qualifications, infrastructure, and compliance with NUC standards.
“Our role transcends assessment; we are here to offer constructive feedback that will help IBBU’s Biological Sciences programme grow and thrive,” Professor Oluma remarked.
He commended the University's tenacity to academic excellence, emphasizing that the collaboration between the NUC and IBBU reflects their shared commitment to raising the standards of higher education in Nigeria.
While delivering his goodwill message, the representative of the NUC, Malam Hassan Sada Rawayau praised IBBU’s leadership and Faculty for their efforts in advancing academic standards, highlighting the Commission’s commitment to supporting universities in achieving their academic goals.
"The accreditation process is a vital exercise to ensure that our institutions maintain the quality expected of them. IBBU has shown promise as a Center of learning, and we are here to help you achieve even greater heights,” he said.
Professor Kabir Muhammad, Head of the Department of Biological Sciences, presented an overview of the program, detailing its curriculum, research output, faculty expertise, and state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.
He re- emphasized the Department’s goal of producing graduates with a solid foundation in biological sciences, equipped to address real-world challenges in agriculture, healthcare, and environmental conservation.
In a vote of thanks, the Registrar, Mal Idris Saleh Kusherki, expressed appreciation to the NUC Acting Executive Secretary for his committed support to academic quality.
He thanked the accreditation team members for their professionalism and insightful recommendations, noting that their input would serve as a roadmap for further development.
“We are immensely grateful for your efforts in assessing our Biological Sciences programme. Your feedback is invaluable and will guide us in aligning with global best practices. Your presence here has strengthened our resolve to provide quality education that meets the expectations of our stakeholders,” Alhaji Idris Saleh kusherki stated.
The programme concluded a tour to the university Professorial Offices, the Central Library, and Laboratories.
The team later proceeded to the Department where members held a high impact interactive session by engaging with Faculty members and students, discussing the programme's strengths and areas for improvement.

The recommendations from the visit are expected to further enhance the quality of the Biological Sciences programme, solidifying IBBU’s reputation as a leading institution in the advancement of science and education in Nigeria.
