The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has given Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai the go ahead to begin to admit students into the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences as from 2024/2025 academic session.
The Council gave the approval via a letter addressed to the Vice Chancellor of the University two months after a professional advisory team visited for an on the spot assessment of the Insitution's readiness for the take of academic activities.
The letter dated November 19, 2024 and signed by the Registrar of the Council, Pharm. Ibrahim Babashehu Ahmed, commended the University for the quality and spread of academic staff across all cadres so far recruited for the programme.
The Council further observed that the Faculty has a good number of high-tech equipment for research and training of students, especially in the Central laboratory; emphasizing the need for the Management to ensure it proper maintenance.
The letter further made some far reaching recommendations to include, among others, considering admission of 200 level students to make maximum use of Lectures/ academic staff on ground which will invariably prepare the way for the 100 level when they eventually progress into the professional years of training.
The Council finally expected the University to make a swift effort in putting in place structures that would enhance the speedy accreditation of the Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (PharmD) training programme.
Recalled that the journey to the establishment of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences began in November, 2023 with the inauguration of a Committee and the visit of the Pharmacy Council Advisory Team in October this year, which expressed satisfaction for the take-off and culminated to approval by the National Universities Commission (NUC) for the University to commence the Doctor of Pharmacy programme.
