41 STUDENTS BAG FIRST CLASS AS SALEM UNIVERSITY HOLDS COMBINED 2022/2023 & 2023/2024 CONVOCATION CEREMONIES

Salem University, Lokoja, will award first-class degrees to 41 out of its 499 graduating students during its combined convocation ceremony for the 2022/2023, and 2023/2024 academic sessions. The ceremony is scheduled for Friday, November 29, 2024.

This announcement was made by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alewo Akubo, during a press briefing held on Monday in Lokoja. He highlighted that the graduates represent seven university colleges:

1. College of Management and Social Sciences
2. 2. College of Natural and Applied Sciences

3. College of Humanities

4.College of Education

5. College of Communication and Information Technology

6. College of law

7. Postgraduate School
Professor Akubo also revealed that the university’s eighth college, the College of Basic Health and Medical Sciences, has recently been accredited and is set to begin operations soon.

The Vice-Chancellor praised Salem University’s consistent role in producing graduates who make meaningful contributions to Kogi State, Nigeria, and the global community. He said:
“Our sixth convocation will see 499 graduates, 41 of whom will be honored with first-class degrees. These graduates are not just students; they are change agents equipped to contribute to the development of our state, country, and the world at large.”

In his address, Professor Akubo also appealed for continued support from key stakeholders, including the Kogi State Government, the Federal Government, and individuals who share the university’s vision. He emphasized the significant role private universities play in Nigeria’s education sector, calling for greater encouragement and attention to their efforts:
“Private universities are making invaluable contributions to education in Nigeria. They are doing much more than public institutions in many ways. For the future of sustainable university education in Nigeria, private universities must be supported.”
As part of the convocation events, Professor Sam Egwu, a distinguished scholar in Political Economy, will deliver the convocation lecture on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
