The Vice Chancellor, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu has commended His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Niger State and Visitor to the University, Farmer Umaru Mohammed Bago for establishing the Directorate of Student Affairs in the State.

The Vice Chancellor gave the commendation when he received the Director General of the Agency, Comrade Bello Barau Sheriff(Iyan Wushishi) and his team who were on campus for a special visit.

He said the new Directorate is an indication of the fact that the Governor has the youth in mind for their development, adding that the onus is on the Director General to deliver accordingly.

Professor Adamu challenged the Director General to make sure that indigent students get registered through payment of scholarships.

The Vice Chancellor stressed that out of about twenty-one thousand, only about fourteen students registered for the 2023/2024 academic session.

He pointed out that they needed to be formally registered, and that if care was not taken, the situation may result to dropping out.

Professor Adamu further appreciated the Visitor for awaring scholarship to some of the indigent students, disclosing so far students from the Teacher Professional Institute, Dan-Daudu, near Gwada have been sponsored.

Speaking earlier, the Director General, Student Affairs, Comrade Bello Barau Sheriff said he was on the campus to brief the University Management on the activities the Directorate and to intimate the University Management on the need to assist students to be part of the student loan scheme.

He pointed out that though the office was new, a lot has been achieved in terms of students sponsorship.

Comrade Sheriff urged the University Management to open more opportunities for the students to be able to access the loan when the portal is opened.

The Director General stressed that the State Government has the students at heart, hence the current effort to sponsor about one thousand of them to study medicine in India.

He condoled and congratulated the Management over the death of Professor Nuhu Ango Aliyu and the appointment of Dr. Aminu Wushishi as Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education Board.

Contributing, the Registrar, Alhaji Idris Saleh Kusherki congratulated the Director General on his appointment and assured him of the readiness of the University to work with him.

He appreciated the fact that a greater percentage of students available to work with the Director General are from IBB University, Lapai.
