CGNS AND DICT COLLABORATE TO LAUNCH RE-ENGINEERED E-LEARNING PORTAL ON LASU WEBSITE FOR ONLINE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF GNS COURSES

In a bid to improve the learning experience of our students and to overcome the challenge of securing appropriate teaching-learning space to cater for its large number of students during the GNS teaching belt, and to continue the hybrid teaching narrative, the Centre for General Nigerian Studies (CGNS) has partnered with the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) to commission an enhanced e-Learning platform for the teaching and learning of all GNS courses at the University. This initiative is designed to complement physical classes as outlined in both CCMAS and BMAS curricula.

The e-Learning platform was launched on Monday, 25th June 2024, and currently hosts GNS 104, GNS 112, GNS 212, and GNS 312.

Guidelines for Accessing the e-Learning Platform:


1. Access the Portal: 
- Visit gns.lasu.edu.ng using any web browser.

2. Login Page:
- The login page will be displayed. However, If the login page is not displayed, click on the login link at the top right corner of the site to access the login page.

3. Login Credentials:
- Enter your Matriculation Number in the Username textbox.
- Enter your Surname in CAPITAL letters in the Password textbox.

4. Dashboard:
- After logging in, you will see a list of all courses you are enrolled in (e.g., GNS 112).

5. Access Course Content:
- Click on the desired course (e.g., GNS 112) to access the course content.

6. Weekly Activities:
- The course is arranged in a weekly format, and students are expected to participate in the following activities:
- Weekly Lesson (Text)
- Weekly Video Lesson
- Weekly Quiz

Important Notes:

1. Weekly Lesson Access:
- You cannot access the lesson note for a particular week until the first day of that week (i.e., 12:00 midnight on the first day).

2. Sequential Access:
- You cannot access the lesson notes for Week 2 onwards until you have accessed and reviewed the lesson notes for the preceding week.

Steps to Access Weekly Content:

1. Weekly Lessons:
a. Select the course (e.g., GNS 112) from the dashboard.
b. Select the appropriate week.
c. Click on the Weekly Lesson note to access it.

2. Weekly Video Lessons:
a. Select the course (e.g., GNS 112) from the dashboard.
b. Select the appropriate week.
c. Click on the Weekly Video Lesson note to access and view the video lesson.

3. Weekly Quizzes:
a. Select the course (e.g., GNS 112) from the dashboard.
b. Select the appropriate week.
c. Click on the Weekly Quiz to access it.
d. If the quiz is available, click on the "Attempt Quiz Now" button to start the quiz.

Continuous Assessment (CA):

It has to be stressed that both visits to the platform and attempts on the weekly quizzes constitute Continuous Assessment (CA) for each student.

Compendium Reference:

- Students are expected to refer to their Compendium as stated on the portal.
