The Federal University of Technology (FUTMinna) in Niger State says one hundred and eighty-seven out of its 7,312 graduating students have bagged first-class degrees.
This is according to the school’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Farouk Kuta who said this at a press briefing in Minna to mark the 41st Founders’ Day and 31st and 32nd combined convocation scheduled for February 1st, 2024.
He said that 2,190 other students will be graduating with second-class upper division degrees, explaining that 3,410 students will graduate with second-class lower division.
Professor Kuta said 1,483 of the students will graduate with a third class and 42 students will graduate with pass degrees.
The VC however enumerated various activities to mark the ceremony which commenced on Friday, January 26 to 1st February to include: Friday prayer and church services, VC’s football competition, lectures, commissioning of four completed projects among others.
According to him, the instruction in the last two years has research competency and innovation which has attracted a sum of over N844.5 million National Research Fund, five million Euro, and 800 million Euro for European Commission grant UP-RISE and Erasmus Plus programs hence the university has ten research products patented.
He added that the university has signed various MoUs with both national and foreign universities and organizations while some others were renewed to enhance productivity in terms of research knowledge and excellence just as a total of 106 inaugural lectures were held since its inception with six under his administration.
Professor Kuta applauded the efforts of the TETFund for its various interventions, adding that without such interventions, the university system in the country would have been something else.
He then stressed the need for staff welfare priority by his administration to ensure a sustainable quality manpower hence a total of 114 academic and non-academic staff have enjoyed foreign and local studies among others. According to him, virtually all its programs have full accreditation.
According to him, the university has a staff strength of 2,385 and a student population of 26,051. He also lamented over inadequate accommodation for students.
